Update: October 2013

I am officially a member of the Neural Activity T3 crew. T3 stands for Teens Teaching Teens. It is our responsibility to go out and teach the community about the negative effects of drugs on the brain and the body. This month we had an official meeting with just the members of the group at one of the group members houses. Committees were made in order to ensure that the group for the year ran smoothly. The groups for the members included: the Activity committee, the Fundraising committee, the design committee. I was a part of the fundraising committee needed to raise money to help sponsor the activities we participate in to gain knowledge and experience backing that knowledge on the reasons behind why drugs negatively affect people.

Also during this month, the Neural Activity students from Palisade High School were prompted by vice-principal, Mr. Bollinger to take on the challenge of presenting to PHS' staff on the knowledge that we had been learning over the last month pertaining to drugs affecting the body. This was a stride for us as a group because it was our first attempt on publicly speaking individually in front of an audience based on the information that we had learned. It was a feat for me personally seeing as I have a legitimate fear of public speaking. I wrote a paper based on my information learned and did more research in order to hold a higher level of knowledge so my speech would run smoothly. All in all the speeches presented to the Palisade staff were deemed a success with the group receiving much positive feedback from multiple audience members.

The Neural Activity group also grew in numbers this month starting out with a total of eight members and climbing to a total of eighteen members by the end of October. Seeing such an interest in spreading the word on the negativeness of drugs to other teens in the community has been inspirational. I am so proud of the teens in the community for helping move forward this endeavor to help teens to realize the dangers of drugs.
